Little Red Riding Hood Magic Grimoire Spread

When I found this vintage little red riding hood book at the thrift store I knew it would end up in my Grimoire. Now the time for that has come! And I have a video of the creative process for you as well.

This Grimoire spread is a declaration to myself that this is how I live my life, In a state of reflection and conscious awareness. Constantly bringing light to the darkness within myself, reverberating that awareness through the world.

Solve et Coagula

Is an alchemical concept meaning roughly, dissolve and reassemble. Since these terms are referring to the soul and consciousness I thought the word integrate was more fitting.

While most people may think the alchemists were just early scientists trying to find the chemical equation for invincibility, that is not all they did. Early alchemists knew the fundamental law that the universe is “mental” and that mind begets physicality. AKA the Power of Attraction. This is what they knew and this is what they practiced.

I elected to put this as the first quote on the page because it sets the goal of the spread. I must remember that I am not just little red riding hood, but I am the wolf too. If i am interacting with it in the world, it is a reflection of a part of myself that I have either ignored or refused to see. This brings light to the dark recesses of my soul which I now have the strength to face.

Incorporate the monster within, then choose not to bite, knowing you can
— Marina Smouse adapted from Jordan Peterson

This is the second quote I added to the spread. While this concept roughly in this arrangement of words is said by Jordan Peterson on many occasions, I added the last bit, because that is the part I would like to focus on in my own spiritual practice.

I outlined in red the words You can, Monster, and Within, because those are very powerful words. Red may represent violence, but it also represents power and strength. This mars like, masculine color also represents action and making things happen.

I wrote “I am you” on the wolf in gold foil (what a detailed cutting job that was). The gold foil was from a candy wrapper, reminding me that there is a innate goodness in the knowledge of the shadow. That the consciousness of it is golden. This is the same reason I used gold foil to surround the word choose, because that is where the consciousness is.

I hope this art Grimoire spread helped to inspire you to confront your fears and integrate the strength to acknowledge them! Also try using vintage storybook pages as a jumping off point, they start you off with great archetypes to build your spell pages around.

And so it is!

With much love,
