How to Make a Felted Wool Pen Pouch for Fountain Pens

Hey everybody, today I am sharing with you how I made this felted wool pen pouch for my fountain pens! It was such a fun process, and I really love the pen pouch I ended up with. This is a beginner friendly sewing project and is all sewn together by hand with no hemming necessary!

Here is a video to show you the process!

This is a simple project so you don’t need much to make one of your own.

Tools

  • Felted wool in your desired color (think, a shrunken wool sweater from the thrift store)

  • Matching thread (or contrasting if you prefer)

  • embroidery floss for floral embroidery (optional)

  • and a needle!

I started with a wool blanket from my family’s cabin. The cabin has become run down in the years since a tree fell on the roof, and I am thankful I was able to salvage this old blanket that was starting to get all musty. After a thorough clean and a hot wash in the washing machine this felted wool was all ready to craft with!

Sizing

The most important part is deciding what size you want your pouch to be and what number of pens you want it to hold. I am making a 4 pen pouch (but it can really hold 5-6 pens if i pack it tight) and I chose the size in accordance with the pens that I have. This whole pattern is 2 pieces and is so easy to draft yourself. The pattern pieces look like this.

Stitching

I stitched this pen pouch with a running stitch going from the bottom of the pouch to the top. I then used 3 stitches at the top edge of each side seam (and the center seam) to anchor and reinforce the point where the stitching will bu under the most pressure. After this I

Embroidery

I stitched the embroidery on the front of the pen pouch off camera unfortunately. But embroidery on felted wool is a magical thing. The felted wool can hide all the tails of your threads so easily!

The threads are well hidden in this thick felted wool

The finished floral pen pouch!

The Magic and Intention in this Witchy-Craft

There is a lot of environmental stewardship energy I poured into this craft. I am so thankful for the amazing resources that the earth can provide us with. It is truly amazing. The wool and cotton thread are biodegradability so I know that when this pen pouch has seen the end of its days it will be able to return to the earth. With the energy of returning this to mother earth, I also used pink wool to begin with, this color, for me represents a maternal and soft accepting energy. This is also amplified by the feminine floral design embroidered on the front of the flap. I take care of the earth by using reusable fountain pens with natural inks, and the earth takes care of me in return by giving me the resources needed to take care of these pens! What an amazing relationship to have!

I hope this witchy craft is able to help inspire you to make a pen pouch for your pens, to that you might take care of them as they deserve to be taken care of.

And so it is!

With much love,
